THE 7 PRINCIPLES
The 7 Principles are intended to guide Well Being Groups. The Principles affirm our connection to each other and are intended to create the community collaboration, cooperation and hope that was derailed by enslavement and discrimination. The Principles provide a framework to heal and build the community, reminding us to work together in the tradition of our culture. We are stronger together.
How the Principles are transformed, changed or manifested is a concern of the Well Being Circles and for the circle to decide and develop. Our only suggestion is that all differences should be solved diplomatically. When conflict occurs, we remain mindful that dividing the African slave community, field hand from house slave, dark skinned from light, men from women, parents from children was a tactic of control and domination. The seeds that divide us are planted deeply in our psyches.
Today, we recognize that many of these divisions continue to manifest in our families and our community, hindering our ability to progress. If we continue to nourish these seeds, conflict and discord might disrupt our efforts to build the healthy thriving communities we desire.
Today, we are willing to compromise in all of our individual differences. No personal issue is ever more important than our common purpose, building a healthy community for our families and ourselves.
